Navigating Sensitive Topics: A Guide to Content Warnings in "Silent Symphony"

Updated: Jan 21, 2025

Stories have the power to transport us to places, feelings, and at times give new perspectives. At other times, though, the stories may brush up against topics too sensitive for many readers. A writer also needs to be sensitive to that and provide the readers with all the necessary information to make an educated choice regarding what they want to read or not.

That is why I have prepared this blog post to outline some of the potential triggers in my debut novel, "Silent Symphony." This list is not exhaustive, but it covers the main themes and situations that might be sensitive for some readers.

Please be advised that "Silent Symphony" contains depictions and discussions of the following:

  • Child Abuse and Neglect: Apart from being one of the major themes of the story, physical and emotional abuses of a child are portrayed in various scenes.

  • Grief and Loss: The loss of a parent and a close friend is included in the story. Complex feelings associated with loss are considered.

  • Trauma: The traumatic incidence in the childhood of the protagonist has long-lasting effects on her life.

  • Medical procedures and hospitals: Some scenes take place at a hospital with talk of surgery.

  • Alcoholism: There is also alcohol abuse; the addicted character experiences suffering of self and loved ones as it worsens with time.

  • Death/Dying: A storyline concerning a dying child looks at death, specifically of an innocence lost, but most specifically as related to dying young.

  • Bullying: The inability to speak results in the bullying and social isolation of the protagonist.

If any of the above topics may be triggering for you, please continue at your own discretion or consider finding support.
